South Asia — Himalayan foothills

Monsoon mycology. Morels (gucchi) are a high-value Himalayan cash crop. Also porcini-like boletes, ganoderma, and a deep village knowledge that outsiders should not steamroll.

Permits

Forest department rules vary by Indian state, Nepal community forests, and Bhutan parks. Many morel grounds are community-managed. Foreign commercial harvest without permission is a hard no.

Selling

Gucchi (dried morel) is an export commodity. Buy from licensed village cooperatives when you can. Do not invent a buying station on someone else's mountain.
